I am going to attend my first AA meeting on Monday night. It has become pretty clear that I have a problem. I drink almost always until I pass out. When I wake up, I often don't remember chunks of time, things I did or said, etc.
I'm a little different, I had gastric bypass surgery 4 years ago. Because of that, I get drunk fast, I pass out easily, I have never once vomited no matter how much I drink, and I have never had a hangover since the surgery. This makes drinking my beloved vodka and Crystal Light (gotta' watch those calories!), so easy! Interesting, I wasn't a problem drinker before because I used food to self medicate. Now I have found alcohol and it works oh so much better. Time passes more quickly and I don't have to feel anything. Not until I get sober and my husband tells me about things I did or said that I don't remember, or he threatens to leave me, etc.

So, it's been a week. What happened? I don't even remember my first AA meeting, but I do remember that after every meeting we all said "KEEP COMING BACK". I did. |
